11th Annual Dr. Siobhan Nash-Marshall Regional High School Ethics Bowl 2026

SATURDAY, JANUARY 31, 2026, The Marshall Institute for Ethical Thought and Action, in conjunction with Sacred Heart Greenwich and the Marc Sanders Foundation, hosted the 11th Annual Dr. Siobhan Nash-Marshall Regional High School Ethics Bowl. This year’s event saw a new change of scenery. The Ethics Bowl was held at the stunning Sacred Heart Greenwich in Greenwich, CT, itself a stone's throw away from Manhattanville, our founding location.

The Ethics Bowl is a competition in which various high school teams come together to present their arguments on case sets containing various topics that are ethical and moral in nature. The competing teams were judged by a panel of judges on their ability to debate these issues in question. This year’s volunteers consisted of lawyers, court judges, professors, and religious and civic leaders. Even our MIETA interns, past and present, went above and beyond to help with moderating and judging the rounds.

The day started with the teams and volunteers arriving, followed by breakfast, where everyone was getting to know each other, and just having a good time before the rounds began. Before the competition kicked off, morning announcements were given in the Sacred Heart chapel from Ethics Bowl Director Jesse Juarez and Assistant Regional Coordinator Lindsey Eyring. At the conclusion of those announcements, the 2026 Ethics Bowl had officially begun!

Following three rounds of ethical debate, the teams and volunteers had lunch and mingled with each other. After lunch, everyone returned to the chapel for afternoon announcements. Lindsey Eyring congratulated all the teams before announcing the four schools that would move on to the semi-finals. Prior to that, she gave thanks on behalf of MIETA to Prof. Kelly Connolly and Sacred Heart teacher Marian Campana for their hospitality and collaboration. If not for them, this Ethics Bowl would not be possible. After that, the teams who made it to the semifinals were announced: Hackley School, Regis High School, School of the Holy Child, and John S. Burke Catholic High School.

The semi-final matches gave the remaining volunteers and students an extraordinary spectacle. The teams gave their best, but four teams soon became two. The finalists had been named. The School of the Holy Child would face Hackley School for the regional championship. After an exemplary debate in the chapel, the victors had been named. The School of the Holy Child was named the winner of the Ethics Bowl.

Following the conclusion of the event, the volunteers all flocked to a nearby restaurant to celebrate the Ethics Bowl. The post-Ethics Bowl cocktail hour has always fostered camaraderie between the volunteers, and it always reminded us that we are just one big Ethics Bowl “family.”

Despite the challenges that plagued the event, faith, friends, and unity triumphed in the end, truly making the 2026 Dr. Siobhan Nash-Marshall Regional High School Ethics Bowl one for the history books.

However, MIETA isn’t done just yet. On Saturday, February 7, 2026, our volunteers will be going to Fordham University to present the 2026 New York City Regional High School Ethics Bowl.
