2024 Westchester County High School Ethics Bowl

SATURDAY, JANUARY 27, 2024, Manhattanville College along with the Marshall Institute for Ethical Thought & Action hosts the 9th Annual Westchester County High School Ethics Bowl, as part of the National High School Ethics Bowl organized by the Parr Center for Ethics at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill.

THE ETHICS BOWL AT MANHATTANVILLE COLLEGE SEEKS TO EMBODY OUR COLLEGE’S MISSION AND VISION, helping tomorrow’s generation become ethical, and thoughtful leaders in a perplexing, always changing, and challenging world. In this regard, The Marshall Institute for Ethical Thought & Action (MIETA), recruits and trains volunteer judges and moderators from current Undergraduate Students and returning alumni. We invite members of our Tri-State community: lawyers, commissioners, board members, federal employees, and professors to participate in our event. This year, MIETA, Manhattanville College and its team of interns hosted nearly 150 high school students, and roughly 60 volunteer judges and moderators.

The Morning Rounds of the competition started at 9:00AM after a refreshing breakfast and a spirited, and heartfelt welcome from the Institute’s Ethics Bowl Director, Jesse Juarez. It was in the Pius X Auditorium where Jesse expressed how each year there is revitalization of hope in this country, where more and more young-adults are discussing and analyzing -- the groundworks to seeking truth.  

The Afternoon Rounds were hosted in the peculiar Reid Castle, which saw ARLINGTON HIGH SCHOOL, (defending Regional Champions), SCHOOL OF THE HOLY CHILD, and first-timers, HALDANE HIGH SCHOOL and PARACLETE ACADEMY. By single-round knockout, the Finalists were identified: PARACLETE ACADEMY vs. HALDANE HIGH SCHOOL. The Round was intense, the students were sharp, the judges were keen. It came down to the moment, and by one point, and a 2:1 judge vote, PARACLETE ACADEMY was Westchester County’s REGIONAL ETHICS BOWL CHAMPIONS.
