The MARSHALL INSTITUTE ETHICS BOWL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM RETURNS –

Nicholas Burns

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2025, The Marshall Institute for Ethical Thought and Action held an inaugural dinner to celebrate the return of the internship program.

The internship provides undergraduate students with the opportunity to practice discursive and analytical skills, including ethical reasoning, forming and critiquing logical arguments, and engaging in civic dialogue. The interns meet weekly to prepare for the Annual Dr. Siobhan Nash-Marshall Regional High School Ethics Bowl. They are heavily involved in volunteer outreach and will lead logic workshops at the high schools who participate in the Ethics Bowl.

The interns this year are Chris Varuolo, Josh Steinschneider, Connor Pellicciotti, Nicholas Burns, and Jake Hoina. On Saturday, September 27, 2025, the internship kicked off for the 2025-2026 Academic Year. The interns met with their supervisors Lindsey Eyring, Jesse Juarez, and Stephanie Havens. The supervisors hosted a class where they reviewed some logical principles and applied these to one of the Ethics Bowl cases that will be argued at this year's Ethics Bowl. After the class ended, the Institute hosted the interns for dinner at the Colony Grill in Port Chester, NY. It was a night full of excitement, laughter, friendship, and philosophical discussions.

Looking ahead, the interns are now preparing for the 6th Annual Mary T. Clark R.S.C.J. - Intramural Ethics Bowl. The interns will be divided into two teams where they will respectfully debate each other on selected cases. This event will serve as a training opportunity for both the interns to apply what they have learned in the internship and for the high school students invited to observe a demonstration on what they will be doing at the Ethics Bowl in January.

Join us on November 1, 2025, to see our interns in action!
