SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 2025, Manhattanville University and the Marshall Institute for Ethical Thought and Action hosted the 6th Annual Mary T. Clark R.S.C.J. Intramural Ethics Bowl. This year’s event saw two teams of interns from the Marshall Institute for Ethical Thought and Action Internship program face off against their peers in their very own Ethics Bowl. This year’s teams were captained by Kate Hanavan and Lindsey Eyring. Along with the captains, we had Nicholas Burns, Lauren Ndreu, Avery Kimberlin, Josh Steinschneider, coached by Katherine Hanavan. On the opposing team were Matthew Bundy, Connor Pelliciotti, Jake Hoina, and Christopher Varuolo coached by Lindsey Eyring. Although the first two rounds were close with each team winning one, the third and final round of the day decided that Lindsey’s team was the winner!
The Intramural Bowl functions as a way for interns to experience an Ethics Bowl before volunteering at the much larger Regional Bowl event for high schools (JAN 31 2026). It also serves as a demonstration for local high schools considering participating in the Regional Bowl at the end of January. In the audience was Dover High School from Pawling, NY, who was impressed with both teams’ work ethic and respect for their peers. Ethics Bowl Director, Jesse Juarez (‘15) moderated all three rounds of the day. The panels of Judges included Professors Nick Krueder of Philosophy, and Matthew Pauley of Political Science and Legal Studies. Kathryn Mayfield (‘15) judged in the first round with Professors Krueder and Pauley, while Dillon Roberts (‘23) judged with them in the second round. Kathryn Mayfield along with fellow alumni Denisa Docabeco (‘24), and Stephanie Havens (‘17) were on the third panel that decided the overall winner.
Manhattanville University and the Marshall Institute for Ethical Thought & Action hope that the Mary T. Clark R.S.C.J. Intramural Ethics Bowl continues to be an annual staple not just for Manhattanville students but for high schools that benefit from observing collegiate dialogue. It is a wonderful place for students of all ages, alumni, and professors to engage in discussion of controversial topics while remaining respectful and open to the opinions of others. Join us for the 11th Annual Dr. Siobhan Nash-Marshall Regional High School Ethics Bowl on SATURDAY, JANUARY 31, 2026.
